Why Moltin chose Boston

written by Adam Sturrock

With an $8 million Series A and U.S. launch in the rearview, Boston is where we’ll spread the culture of our Newcastle founders, expand our Stateside operations and grow our team.

Boston boasts an unrivaled network of world-renowned universities and produces some of the top tech talent anywhere. It’s the city that spawned the use of cloud for eCommerce. Here, Demandware was acquired by Salesforce and Endeca was acquired by Oracle. The Hub is also home to Wayfair, Staples, Rue La La, The Grommet and other tech and retail giants that have shaped the commerce world.

We’re in good company among high-growth players, too. Boston was ranked the top startup community in the U.S. in 2018 for the second year in a row, with several incubators and accelerators to support the scene. The city also has a long-standing love affair with martech. Think: Crimson Hexagon, Salsify, Jebbit, Zaius and Mautic, the list goes on. Collectively, these companies have raised well over $100 million in funding over the last few years, and we’re honored to grow alongside them.

Retail is no longer about single channels, but about creating experiences and giving consumers control to shop how and where they want. This requires digital commerce solutions that work for developers, enterprises and customers. The Boston commerce community is perfectly positioned to address this need. Salsify makes it possible to dynamically manage digital product content across channels. Zaius is a single source of truth for retail data. Moltin allows retailers to engage consumers beyond traditional channels and embed commerce in any application. Technology transformation is happening right here.

We expect big things from Boston as retailers reinvent themselves, and even bigger things from our Moltin team. Thanks to Underscore VC for supporting us, and for helping to grow the vibrant Boston commerce community. And thanks to our tech predecessors for setting the bar so high, attracting the world’s top tech talent, and establishing such a welcoming business community.

Keep an eye on Moltin as we announce new features, hires and milestones this year. We’re excited to continue our journey in Newcastle and The Boston Hub.
