Ecommerce Merchandising

Encourage customers to increase their orders

Merchandising is one of the fundamental ways for retailers to encourage their customers to spend more on each order. And customers like merchandising (when it's done properly) because it helps them shop more efficiently and successfully.

Products can be related to each other to encourage shoppers to consider "the model up," accessories, warranties and so forth. Merchandising associations include:

  • Up-Selling: Presents superior versions of the same product for the customer's consideration, resulting in a higher average transaction values for the store. For example, when displaying a camera, display higher models in the same product line
  • Cross-Selling: Presents related products to the customer. For example, when displaying a book, cross selling can display other books on the same topic or by the same author
  • Accessories: Encourages the customer to add related accessories to their shopping cart when purchasing an item. Examples including spare batteries, memory cards or carrying cases with electronic goods
  • Warranties: Allows 'dependent' items such as product warranties to be sold with a product.

Merchandising items can be displayed on product, shopping cart, checkout or receipt pages.

Featured Products

Promote new, high margin, hot selling or close-out products by displaying them as featured products on category and search result pages.

Automatic Product Recommendations

Your customers' shopping habits often provide valuable suggestions - give your visitors product recommendations based on the purchasing history of other customers. When viewing products in the store, customers can view similar recommended items in a 'Customers who bought this item also bought' list. These recommendations are maintained automatically based on the prior purchasing trends of other customers.

Top Sellers

Boost sales by displaying top-selling products prominently. "Top sellers" gives your customers more insight into what others are buying by automatically displaying the X top-selling products in your store over a defined interval. Top-selling items can be displayed on the site home page or category pages.

Recently Viewed Products

Remind customers of recent products of interest by displaying a list of the last five products viewed in the store. Typically used in the shopping cart and on product pages to allow easy navigation to products already viewed.
