Samsonite Launches Global Ecommerce Platform for Premier Black Label Brand Using Elastic Path Software

Vancouver, BC, Canada, October 3, 2007 -- Samsonite announces the launch of a global ecommerce platform for its premier Black Label brand using Elastic Path Software, the pioneer of flexible ecommerce. The platform will allow customers worldwide to browse and purchase Samsonite's flagship luggage and apparel, forming the key pillar in Samsonite's Global Online Retail Strategy which is being implemented by full service interactive agency Avenue A | Razorfish UK.

Avenue A | Razorfish UK chose the Elastic Path ecommerce platform for its functionality, ease of integration and multi-language/multi-currency support, which optimise cost-efficiency and time-to-market.

The ecommerce platform which will launch in 8 languages in 45 countries aims both aesthetically and functionally to reflect the Samsonite Black Label boutique store, using large hero images to allow consumers to explore the products whilst setting them in a context. The North American site, developed within 6 months, will launch in October 2007, followed by a succession of launches in 2008 in Korea, China, Europe and Japan.

2008 will also see the global launch of the Ecommerce shop for Samsonite's main luggage brand which will market around 4000 products online and support the Ecommerce and digital communication needs of all brands in its portfolio: Samsonite Black Label, OutLab, American Tourister, Lambertson-Truex and its luggage licensees Lacoste and Timberland.

John Cunningham, Technology Director, Avenue A | Razorfish UK comments: "We were very impressed with Elastic Path and its focus on the retail sector which really helped us get this project to market in very short space of time. The alternative was an enterprise level solution with unwanted functionality making it more expensive and more difficult to implement.

In addition, Elastic Path software is built on an open-source stack ,which further optimises cost-efficiency. It is also easily integrated with other open-source applications and with Samsonite's existing enterprise solution.

As a result, it was the best solution in terms of speed to market and allowed us to deliver this global ecommerce platform on time and within budget."

Avenue A | Razorfish UK has undertaken the design and build of the ecommerce platform and has also carried out integration services for Samsonite's back office systems and consultancy on all 3rd party business processes.

The Samsonite Black Label ecommerce platform launches first in US and Canada in October followed by a succession of launches in 2008 in Korea, China, Europe and Japan.
